Keeps playing through doc social Morning Brief

4 stories this morning, for surgeons and the people who support them.

  • The new FY2027 fusion MS-DRGs are device-class, not Carlsmed-exclusive — DeGen plants a flag — CMS's new MS-DRGs 523/524/525 (effective Oct 1, 2026) are reached through new device values added to the ordinary fusion tables 0RG and 0SG describing an 'Interbody Fusion Device, Custom-Made Anatomically and Virtually Designed' — a device class, not a brand. DeGen Medical issued a statement Aug 25 saying its patient-specific lumbar implants, designed by an engineer with the surgeon and explicitly without AI or machine learning, fit that description. • Tenon Medical prices a $3M private placement with 177% warrant coverage, closing Aug 31 — Tenon Medical agreed Aug 27 to sell 597,610 shares (or pre-funded warrants) at an effective $5.02 with warrants for up to 1,058,517 more shares, for roughly $3.0M gross before fees, closing on or about Aug 31. Tenon sells the Catamaran and SImmetry+ SI joint fusion systems. Source
  • Spineart's PERLA TL pedicle screws clear FDA to run on eCential's open robotics platform — FDA 510(k) clearance announced Aug 26 for the PERLA TL application on eCential Robotics' navigation and robotic-assisted platform, covering the PERLA TL Open and MIS pedicle screw systems in open and MIS procedures. Spineart's second US clearance in a week. Source
  • Globus Medical acquires Duke-incubated Higgs Boson Health for episode-of-care software — Announced Aug 26, terms undisclosed. Higgs Boson's software covers the musculoskeletal patient journey — preoperative planning, post-discharge PT guidance, remote symptom tracking and feedback to surgical teams. It goes into Globus's surgical intelligence pillar alongside ExcelsiusGPS; Globus states a goal of 95% good outcomes at ten years across all musculoskeletal surgery. Source
