[0:00] Hi, my name's Leanne Levitt from Business for Surgeons, and thank you for having me at this first doc Social video. Very excited to be here. So our first topic today is the increasing benefits of Social Media in the medical industry. But with the launch of Facebook in 2004, Twitter 2006, Instagram 2010, and the recent additions of TikTok, Clubhouse, and Snapchat, Social Media is literally everywhere.
[0:29] So I've got 3 companies you've probably heard of, top 3 with the most followers, so we've got Nike.
[0:38] GoPro and Spotify. So Nike has 199 million followers. I mean, wow. But we would probably never have heard of these companies if it hadn't been for the power of Social Media. So Social Media has been a big part of our lives for so long, and with Technology always evolving, it can really revolutionize the medical industry. So within the medical.
[1:03] Industry, be it hospital or Private practice, there's so much more that can be utilized with the use of Social Media. Since the start of the Pandemic, you guys, healthcare professionals, doctors and surgeons have been thrust into the forefront.
[1:19] And that is one of the main reasons I set up my organization, Business for Surgeons, in October 2021. I mean, I've had to adapt quickly to my external environment and I have a passion for Business and working with doctors and surgeons. So, Social Media.
[1:38] Isn't as scary as it may sound, OK. So there is a lot to learn and a lot of benefits. My top 5 benefits coming up will either introduce you to Social Media or reintroduce you to gain your knowledge, and these 3 videos which we've got for you.
[1:57] In this series can provide education on Social Media. So my top 5 benefits for you today are number 1, Social Media can raise your profile locally and internationally. So your clients, patients, and Business partners are more likely to be situated close to where you live, and word of mouth is a great advertisement.
[2:19] But you want to go further afield, yeah, OK. You want to be known internationally, and a great example of that is that I am sitting here presenting to you today from the sunny Zurich, Switzerland, amazing Zurich, Switzerland. And Doctor Sharan is in the US. That partnership probably wouldn't have happened if it hadn't been for Social Media.
[2:43] And #2, Social Media can be used to communicate in times of crisis. With the recent and Ongoing Pandemic, World Health Organisation has been instrumental with their Twitter account, providing us with the.
[3:00] Up to-date information. Check out their Twitter account. And number 3, Social Media can be used to share information, raise awareness and provide education. So we partner with Sarcoma Strong, OK, very exciting partnership, but what they do with regard to raising awareness and providing information for families with sarcomas and rare diseases is.
[3:24] Amazing and much needed, check out their Instagram, what they are up to. They do videos, information, and it provides an all-round service for people who need it. And number 4, Social Media can enhance and grow your practice. So at the end of the day.
[3:44] Your practice is a Business. The main principle of Business is the bottom line.
[3:50] And the addition of Social Media is that can really enhance your Business, get your name out there, boost your reputation, OK? And more patients and clients will know who you are. Prime example of this is a recent article I did for Ophthalmology Business Minute magazine, which will be out March, April time, so look out for that.
[4:11] And number 5. Social Media enhances Innovation. So I know I'm very competitive, OK, I know you are too.
[4:21] And OR pics just raises everyone's games, so everyone can see what people are up to. But your competitive advantage can be increased by adjusting your Social Media strategy, or implementing one in the first place. So people are looking to you guys for communication, trust and guidance. Social Media gives you that voice.
[4:45] To enhance your practice and take your reputation to that next level. So I don't need to tell you, OK, you all already know this, busy people. And there's so many platforms out there, but you can just start with one platform, maybe one post a week, OK? It just gives you that presence.
[5:08] And what your practice is all about and put your authentic self out there. Try not to worry.
[5:17] We're here to help. We have got 2 more videos for you. The next video coming up is how to construct an Instagram account and post specifically tailored for doctors and surgeons. And then we've got Instagram versus Twitter, the pros and cons. So look out for those, very excited. And thank you so much for having me. I've really enjoyed presenting to you today, and see you next time.
