[0:07] Thank you guys for making the time to hear our talk. My name is Will Kurtz. I, uh, am a Joint replacement surgeon here in Nashville.
[0:15] Uh, I have, uh, was supposed to give this talk at the Miller Review course to all of the chief residents, uh, in, uh, May, but obviously that meeting was canceled, so we decided to do this as a webinar. Um, this talk is geared mostly towards orthopedic residents and fellows, people who are looking for, uh, their next orthopedic job, but it's also for any orthopedic surgeons out there who wanna kinda understand a little bit more on the Business side of it.
[0:38] Orthopedic practice. I have two goals for this talk. One is to help the orthopedic residents learn about an orthopedic practice, how it works, and then what they should be looking for when they're trying to find an orthopedic job. And my second goal is to empower all orthopedic surgeons out there to learn the Business side of Orthopedics a little bit so they don't get taken advantage of. Basically, you need to know how the sausage is made so that you're treated appropriately.
[1:03] Um, so that's, that's us. So it's a little bit of our, um, our sponsor, the orthopedic Forum. Uh, they've been around for 20 years and they represent 98 orthopedic groups across the country in 42 different states and there are about 4000 surgeons that are members of the Ortho Forum. Uh, they get together every, every year, um, and share financial data so that we can all learn from each Other, so we can learn how to best govern and, uh, how to best run our businesses.
[1:33] Uh, we are recording this talk, so if there are people out there, residents that can't make this particular, um, webinar, uh, but want to check out the video, it will be available on the Ortho Forum website. Uh, so please tell your friends, uh, to check that out. As a quick overview, we're gonna talk about the different types of orthopedic Practices. We're gonna talk about how we all get paid as orthopedic surgeons. We're gonna talk about revenue cycle management and collections and charges and overhead and salaries and
[2:01] We'll talk about ancillary opportunities. We're gonna talk about how decisions are made in an orthopedic group, and lastly, we're gonna hopefully help you find your first and hopefully last orthopedic job. That is my goal today is to help everyone find that perfect fit for them. If anyone has questions during this talk, there's a Q&A tab that's down there in the bottom of your Zoom, uh, window. You can type your question in at any time. Uh, we will also allow some questions and answers at the end and you can click the raise your hand button at the end.
[2:29] And we will take uh that individual off mute so they can ask their questions at the end of the talk.
