## Summary

3 stories this morning, for surgeons and the people who support them.

- **SI-BONE recalls 98 iFuse TORQ implants over tube packaging that may not hold a sterile barrier; two already implanted** — In an 8-K filed September 11, SI-BONE disclosed a voluntary recall initiated August 21 of 98 iFuse TORQ implants whose tube packaging, made May 4-15, 2026, failed sterile-barrier acceptance criteria. Two had been implanted with no infections or adverse events reported; about 3,900 implants in total need repackaging and re-sterilization, a correction and removal report went to FDA August 31 with a recommended Class II classification, and the company expects a charge of up to about $150,000 with no other Q3 revenue impact. - **Medtronic's Stealth AXiS does its first clinical cases in Europe, starting with complex spine revision** — Medtronic announced September 11 the first European clinical procedures with the Stealth AXiS integrated planning, navigation and robotics system, including complex spinal revision by Sean Molloy at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, with teams in multiple countries starting in spine and cranial and more cases planned. The system was FDA-cleared for spine in February 2026 and CE-marked for spine and cranial on April 28, 2026 (news.medtronic.com). - **Mayo Clinic: about 30% of knee MACI biopsies proceed to implantation at a mean 4.3 years** — A Level IV Mayo Clinic series in Arthroscopy (epub August 29, 2026; covered by Orthopedics This Week September 10) found 64 of 208 biopsied knees (31%) went on to MACI implantation; of those not implanted, 60% reported improvement after concomitant chondroplasty. Outside-institution biopsies took longer to reach implantation (13.1 vs 6.1 months) and lower BMI predicted implantation. A Brooke Army Medical Center military cohort (Arthroscopy, Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, PMID 42639353) reported 55.2% within two years. [Source](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/42667295/)
