I’m curious to know do you think surgeons are aware of how product requests impact contract erosion and CM? Should they ask what’s made on their cases to understand if the product they’re requesting will erode those dollars? Do surgeons have a fiscal responsibility? I’m referring to commodities that are in saturated markets, not niche products.

This applies to so many areas of the supply chain. In non acute, especially, there is a real disconnect where there been little to no education provided other than vendors and sales pitches. Whether it’s being compliant on a vaccine PBG or knowing what gpo you are affiliated with, it almost seems intentionally obfuscated. I once heard a great line: if your supply chain plan is predicated on your vendors… there isn’t a plan. Great topic!
