How Do Active Cancer Diagnoses Affect Total Joint Arthroplasty Complication Rates?

There is currently a paucity of data analyzing total joint arthroplasty (TJA) disparities among patients with active cancer diagnoses. For this reason, we conducted a retrospective study to determine whether an active cancer diagnosis results in an increased risk for perioperative TJA complications (urinary tract infection, blood transfusion, cerebrovascular accident, respiratory failure, renal failure, deep vein thrombosis, pneumonia, sepsis, periprosthetic joint infection) and postoperative mortality. This lecture was previously recorded for presentation at the Medical Student Orthopedic Society 2024 annual meeting.
