Dr. Jan Carney is the MPH Program Director, Associate Dean for Public Health and Health Policy and Professor of Medicine at the Learner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont. Dr. Carney earned her BA from Middlebury college, her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and Master of Public Health (MPH) from the Harvard School of Public Health. She is Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Preventative Medicine. She is a researcher and an educator who has served as Vermont’s Commissioner of Health under three gubernatorial administrations, championing improvements in children’s health insurance, preventing teen smoking, improving cancer screening, and has received numerous awards from her time there. Join us as we discuss the role of various associations and advocacy for our patients.

Spencer Stiles is the Group President of Orthopaedics and Spine at Stryker Corporation, an American multinational medical technology corporation .  Spencer joined Stryker in 1999 and has been in a progression of leadership roles for the past 24 years.  In 2019, Spencer was named Group President, Orthopaedics and Spine and oversees Global Joint Replacement, Trauma & Extremities and Global Spine Division.  Under Spencer’s leadership, the Digital, Robotics, and Enabling (DRE) Technologies organization was formed in 2021.  In his role, he has oversight across the entire enterprise which includes the United States, Eastern Europe, the Mideast, Latin America, Africa, and Canada.  Tune in to hear about forming true partnerships in business and the various leadership styles that affect growth in an organization.

Dr. Douglas Johnston is the Chief of Cardiac Surgery, Northwestern Medicine and Professor of Surgery, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Prior to that he was Vice Chairman of the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Program Director of the Thoracic Surgery Residency and Advanced Cardiothoracic Fellowships, Surgical Director of the Aortic Valve Center, and staff cardiac surgeon in the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute at Cleveland Clinic. He completed his medical education at Harvard Medical School, where he was a Harvard National Scholar.
