We’re continuing to share amazing stories of orthopedic surgeons who are passionate about advancing patient care. Dr. Jim Williams joins us for this episode to discuss his recent retirement as Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at Cleveland Clinic (Euclid). During his career he served as assistant team physician for the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Cavaliers, and as Head Team Physician at John Carroll University and many Cleveland area high schools. He is now the Chief Medical Advisor for Lazurite, who has developed a proprietary light and camera technology to create the modular ArthroFree wireless camera system for minimally invasive surgery.
Topics include:
-Amazing fact that Dr. Williams is our first guest who has 5 generations of physicians in his family.
-We hear about the talk of the conference hall at AOSSM/AANA with ArthroFree. It also won The Ortho Show’s New Innovation award during the conference. The ArthroFree wireless system—surgical camera + receiver—is equipped with the Meridiem Light Engine (MLE), and requires a fraction of the energy of comparable wired camera systems. The system is designed to simplify sterilization, decrease setup and breakdown times, and eliminate the need for the light source and the power source on the surgical tower. The ArthroFree wireless system will eliminate the hazards of fiber-optic cables, along with the need for camera cable management by surgical assistants. It’s close to hitting commercialization and have no doubt it will hit the stratosphere as soon as it’s available.
